Orange County Global Medical Center named recipient of Healthgrades 2017 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ and Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™

Santa Ana, CA– Orange County Global Medical Center announced today that it has received Healthgrades 2017 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ and Gynecology Excellence Award™. According to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, this distinction places Orange County Global Medical Center within the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care of mothers during labor and delivery, as well as women undergoing gynecologic procedures.

Orange County Global Medical Center was also named a Healthgrades 2017 5-star recipient for Hysterectomy, C-Section Delivery, Vaginal Delivery, and Coronary Bypass Surgery. A 5-star rating indicates that Orange County Global Medical Center’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated. This is the third year in a row that Orange County Global Medical Center has received this high distinction for Coronary Bypass Surgery care.

To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in labor and delivery, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for virtually every hospital in the 17 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2013 through 2015. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes:
From 2013 through 2015, if all hospitals in the 17 states included in this analysis, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, on average, 128,302 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.*
From 2013 through 2015, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 53.8% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award.*

From 2013 through 2015, if all hospitals, as a group, in the 17 states performed similarly to hospitals who received the Healthgrades 2017 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award, on average, 146,138 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.*
From 2013 through 2015, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award, had, on average a 41.8% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award.*
